
The 2ndParvez
Abbasi Open Shooting Championship will begin from 7-12h August 2018
at the Pakistan Navy’s shooting range at PNS Karsaz, in Karachi.
This event is
going to be one of its kind in Pakistan’s shooting calendar, since the
tournament is opened for everyone including general public along with the teams
representing Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, Police and other
law enforcement agencies.
For about
above 400 shooters will compete in the event in various categories that
includes; Air Pistol, Skeet and Trap during the 6-day tournament. This event is
dedicated to tribute and celebrates the journey of life and the achievements of
Parvez Abbasi, who is also the founding secretary of the National Rifle
Association. He is said to be the driving force behind promotion of shooting sports
in Pakistan.
During the entire
championship, the series of events will be carried out according the written
rules of the International
Shooting Sport Federation, governing body of the Olympic Shooting events in
Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun categories. Speaking at a press conference, Commodore
Ghazanfar Abbas, Director of the Parvez Abbasi Open Shooting Championship,
said,
“Parvez Abbasi Open Shooting Championship is a vital addition to the sport’s annual calendar in Pakistan. This is a great chance for budding shooters of the country, from whatever background, to compete and further hone their skills. We are delighted to be honouring Parvez Abbasi’s legacy in this way”.
Commodore
Ghazanfar Abbas further said in his appreciation to the Abbasi family,
especially Mrs.Askara Abbasi, wife of late Parvez Abbasi fostering the event
and giving another opportunity to sports enthusiasts to compete in a ranking
event.
Mrs.Askara
Abbasi will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony scheduled to be held on
August 12th, 2018.
Brief about Parvez Abbasi (Late)
Parvez Abbasi was the Founder Secretary General of the
Sindh Rifle Association during 1962 to 1976. Later, he was elected as the Executive
Vice President post, where he served the nation till his last breath. Before,
electing as the Executive Vice President in 1998, he also served his services
as the Secretary General of the National Rifle Association of Pakistan from
1972 till 1998.
Parvez Abbasi sportsmanship and activeness enabled him to
hold the national record in the Rapid Fire Pistol for 30 years in his name. The
legend has also won 12 National Medals in different Pistol events. He had also represent
Pakistan as a player and Captain of the National team in the Asian Games in
Tehran. Parvez Abbasi the great man has represented Pakistan on numerous
occasions and events at International level including: Commonwealth Games/
Asian Games /Olympic Games /SAAF Games (as Judge /manager/ Captain
/Player/Secretary General SAAF Shooting Association). It’s an honor for us that
Parvez Abbasi effeorts that Pakistan in the year 2000, qualified for the first
time for the Olympics. He also served as the jury member for shooting at the
Olympics in Greece in 2004. Parvez Abbasi passed away
on the July 25, 2006 following a four year battle with cancer.
